Wellness and Weight Loss Wednesday

I was talking to a dear friend of mine the other day about weight loss and how I know how to lose weight but somehow I just can't accomplish it myself.

I know hundreds of weight loss tips and I have read so many studies for weight loss but I somehow just don't manage to lose weight myself. If you look back on my weekly weigh ins you can see that I have just gained weight. I get fatter and fatter by the year.

When I think about what it is that is making me fat I think I would say it is mostly Geneva, a city of extremely thin people is making me fat. I am not saying the thin people in Geneva are making me fat, but the fact that I don't feel safe in Geneva. I don't go out for walks because the parks always have guys masterbating or someone following me.

I don't go to a gym because the gyms here are horrifyingly expensive. So the only thing left to do is to exercise at home. I just never feel motivated to exercise at home.

I am hoping things will change when I move to Iceland, I will have the swimming pools and I will be able to go to a cheap gym, I as well will have friends to be motivated with. The only thing I worry about is that I find that the Icelandic cuisine is quite fattening and I know I will probably live of bread and ice cream.

At the University of Iceland they have a personal trainer team for the students that I think I will go to, both to get healthy and because they have as well recipes that are tailored for poor students.

Wellness and Weight Loss Wednesday

I haven't written one of these posts in AGES, I haven't been feeling very motivated. I need to start weighing myself again and actually start to work out. As you can see on the picture I have maxed out my 10 000 steps stars so if I don't start working out and drinking water I will never finish this chart!

At the moment I have 43 stars, and I had planned on having 65 stars by the end of the month.

I decided to get a haircut before I reached 70 stars since I really wanted to cut my hair and I felt it might kick me back into gear.

Wellness and Weight Loss Wednesday

I haven't done one of these in a while and I thought that I hadn't made any process for the past weeks but when I looked at the last one I had 18 stars and this week I have reached 33 stars!!

As you can (if you squint) that by now I have gotten 3 prices! The first one was some flowers which I enjoyed much more than I expected. The second and third prizes were supposed to be a magazine and bath oils but I decided instead to buy a water bottle. A gorgeous pink and purple water bottle! I just was much more excited for a new water bottle, and I have been using it and it will help with my "2 liters of water for 7 days" goal!

I need to start having a general work out routine and start doing sit-ups and push-ups again. I have to as well measure myself again and see if I have lost any centimeters or kilograms! I'll probably get to that this week or maybe the next.

Wellness and Weight Loss Wednesday

I have felt super motivated the past two weeks! As you can see on my goal star chart I have already reached 18 stars!

Not only is the chart motivating me but as well the fact that I am being better! When I started to do push-ups I could barely do one! At the moment I can do 10 in a row! I can feel myself getting stronger which is just the greatest feeling in the world.

What motivated me as well was picking out flowers for my 10 star price and just seeing the flowers every day as a reminder of the progress that is happening and knowing that in 2 stars I will go and buy a magazine!

I like as well the visual reminder what I need to focus more on doing and for example this week I am going to be focused more on drinking water! Something I just always forget to do.

Wellness and Weight Loss Wednesday

The last time I wrote a post like this was in October! The reason I added Wellness into the Weight Loss part was because I am not good at losing weight, I am brilliant at gaining it and I didn't want the whole focus to be on the fact that I don't lose weight.

I don't want these posts to end up being me shaming myself into losing weight, I want them to be me being happy about myself and how I am doing in general.

I mentioned briefly in my March Goals that I wanted to reach 10 stars on my Wellness and Weight Loss chart and today I just wanted to talk about my system.

Firstly it is a goal star rewards system for both weight loss and just general wellness. I get one gold star (more like orange star) when I reach certain goals. In total with this chart I can reach 196 stars!

The goals that I have are:
Walk 10 000 steps
Work out for 30 minutes
Kilograms lost
Centimeters lost
100 sit-ups
10 push-ups
2 liters of water every day for 7 days

For the steps, sit-ups and push-ups it doesn't matter how long it takes me to complete the goal for me to get a star. So if I walk 2000 steps for 5 days I get a star! And when I do 50 sit-ups every day I get a star every other day.

For every 10 stars I earn I get a prize.
10 stars: flowers
60 stars: nail polish
110 stars: shoes
160 stars: water boiler
20 stars:
 magazine
70 stars: hair cut
120 stars: full size
Weleda Body Lotion
170 stars: dress
30 stars:
bath oils
80 stars: t-shirt
130 stars: make-up
180 stars: brassiere
40 stars:
body scrub
90 stars:
paint brushes
140 stars: underwear
190 stars: bathing suit
50 stars:
lipstick
100 stars: full size
Yankee Candle
150 stars: jeans
200 stars: curling iron

I feel this motivates me because I really want certain things on my prize list and I the chart is right in front of my face when I wake up and whenever I am lying in bed (since I like to study in bed I spend a lot of time in there).

I am hoping to have this chart all filled up before September and I think I can manage it :)

Wellness and Weight Loss Wednesday

It has been a long time since I stepped on the scale the last time and part of me was nervous that I had gained weight.

However, it  was a happy moment when I saw that not only hadn't I gained weight I had lost some! As before, my weight loss is slow but slow and steady wins the race!

Last weigh in:      79.6 kg
Today's weigh in: 79.3 kg

Wellness wise I have as well been doing pretty great. I have been good at not getting overly stressed over my midterms and in return I have been doing amazingly in my midterms! The last one will be this Friday!

My cold is finally gone and took the cough with it! It feels amazing being able to breath again! But at the same time the rainy and foggy period in Geneva has arrived with a bang but I am doing my best at staying warm and dry!

Wellness and Weight Loss Wednesday

I have been thinking about the name of my Wednesday weight loss posts for some time and since I am not really working out I decided to change it into Wellness and Weight Loss Wednesday!

I wanted to include wellness because for me that involves so much more than just weight loss and workouts. It includes both my mental and physical health which I believe are equally important.

I haven't stepped on the scale now for two weeks, last week because I had exams and just didn't want to think about anything else and today because I am ill and I just don't want to see discouraging numbers.

Speaking of being ill, I have had a cold now for about 3 weeks! It has gone from me being a super snotty whiny person to now a super coughy even more whinier person. Have I mentioned before how I hate being sick! I HATE IT! It just drains me, luckily this time around I have been taking extra good care of myself. I keep on drinking hot tea and I have been to the pharmacy twice to get different medicine, first I went for my all time favorite NeoCitran. If you live in Switzerland it is the best cold medicine around! THE BEST!

It is easy to get since it is a very common cold medicine here, you don't need presciption you can just get it over the counter in pharmacies! It comes in small satchels and all you need is hot water. It tastes pretty good as well since it tastes like lemons! Perfect for when you have a cold.

NeoCitran main three ingredients are Paracetamol, Pheniramin-Maleat and Phenylephrine. It as well has Vitamin C in it!

You are only allowed to have 3 of those bad boys a day but let me tell you they work like a charm!

So if you ever get a cold or the flu in Switzerland pick up a NeoCitran!

Somehow this post went from me changing its name to "how to survive in Switzerland with a cold" type of post!

Anyhow, I'll definitely weigh myself next week!

Workout & Weight Loss Wednesday

I want to start writing Weekly Food Shopping posts again, I did it once and I really liked it! I just love looking back at things and being able to see what food I bought here in Switzerland when I have moved. I'm going to see how I feel about it on Thursday when we do our weekly shopping and try to take some pictures! The main problem with taking the pictures after I do all the shopping is the fact that I have a tiny kitchen! It is so hard to fit everything into one picture!

Anyways, onto what this post is supposed to be about, weight loss! And, guess what! This week I had some minor weight loss!

Last week weigh in: 79.7 kg (175.7 lbs)
This week weigh in: 79.6 kg (175.5 lbs)

Not a big loss this week but it went a tiny bit down! And hey! I didn't gain weight and for me that is a big success! I feel more focused and if I lose 100 grams a week that will still end in some great weight loss! In 10 weeks that would be a kilo, and in a year I would lose a little over 5 kg (11 lbs). Which is great, so a little loss is still a success!

Workout & Weight Loss Wednesday

So I realized I totally forgot to write about what I actually changed like I promised last week! But, hey! What I changed and have now finished my second week of is that I stopped eating gluten.

There were many reasons for this, I always felt nauseous and had horrible stomach ache after I ate. It wasn't after every time I ate but most of the time, and most of the time I was eaten things with gluten in it.

The past 2 weeks I haven't had any issue with my stomach! I feel amazing! I was planning on testing out being gluten free for 3 weeks and now I have one week left! I really haven't changed anything else but the gluten, I still eat bread (gluten free) and pasta (gluten free) and I made AMAZING gluten free cheesecake which I ate, I ate the whole cake! Poor Mr. Handsome only got one slice!

Last week weigh in: 80.2 kg (176.8 lbs)
This week weigh in79.7 kg (175.7 lbs)

BOOOYAAAA! I actually screamed when I stepped on the scale (and scared Mr. Handsome). I reached my first goal so I am looking for some great cardigan for me! I am so happy! SO HAPPY!! HAPPYYYYYY!

My next goal is to reach 77.4 kg (170.6 lbs) and I actually fell like I can reach that goal! Hopefully I will be able to reach the weight goal I made for September which was to lose 2 kg (2-4 pounds) at at the moment I need to lose 600 grams more! 600 grams is something I will hopefully manage! I finally have my groove back!

I am just so happy and I have so much energy at the moment and I am really putting all that energy into studying for University and it just feels great!

Workout & Weight Loss Wednesday

For the past two weeks I decided to change a certain thing about my eating, I will talk more about it tomorrow (with pictures) since today I just want to talk about weight loss. Because I actually lost some weight this week.

Last week weigh in: 81.1 kg (178.8 lbs)
This week weigh in80.2 kg (176.8 lbs)

Now I am back to where I was when I started (wrote about it here), I am hoping to get lower next week! But I am still going to count it as almost 1 kg lost for my September Monthly Goals. I am hoping that with my new diet that things might go better in the next couple of weeks.

Battle strategies for this week are:
- Start my mornings by drinking water.
- Finish the sit up challenge!
- Wake up at 7 every morning

Workout & Weight Loss Wednesday

This week I was careful what I ate, I tried to sleep more, I went out for walk and finally wasn't extremely stressed, and this week I of course gained weight. Because that is always what happens, as soon as I start looking at what I eat I gain weight. I am sorry body, that consuming more than 400 calories makes you gain weight, I am sorry that finally when I feel a bit better I gain weight, I am sorry that I hate my body for being such a pain in my gigantic ass. GIGANTIC! Or as I described it to my friend, I feel like I am a rotting corpse that is about to explode. Yes, that is how I feel. I am sick of it all, I am sick of feeling tired all of the time, I am sick of having heartburn all of the time, I am sick of feeling nauseous all of the time and don't get me started on those headaches.

So this weeks numbers suck, I was hoping to lose those measly 300 grams and reach my first goal, but no I gained a kilo, and that kilo is not muscles since I haven't been working out more than before. I am pretty sure it is a kilo of self hate and failure.

Last week weigh in: 80.2 kg (176.8 lbs)
This week weigh in: 81.1 kg (178.8 lbs)

Do I have a plan for next week? No, I have other things to do and I decided to put these feeling and problems on the back burner until next Wednesday when I will start on an experiment with my annoying body.

Do check out Tilly's Workout & Weight Loss Wednesday post, it is more happier than mine!

Weekly Weigh-in #6

I can't believe it has been a month since I weighed myself! The truth is that I am a bit afraid of the scale, I am so close to my nightmare number (80kg/176lbs) that I am afraid every time I step on the scale that I have hit that number.

The Numbers:
Starting Weight: 78.4 kg (172.8 lbs)
Current Weight: 79 kg (174.1 lbs)

Last month -> This month
Thighs: 63.5 cm (25 inches) -> 63 cm (24.8 inches)
Butt: 110.5 cm (43.5 inches) -> 109 cm (42.9 inches)
Belly: 112 cm (44 inches) -> 105 cm (41.3 inches)
Waist:  87 cm (34.3 inches) -> 86 cm (33.9 inches)
Boobs: 108 cm (42.5 inches) -> 108 cm (42.5 inches)
Arms: 34 cm (13.4 inches) -> 32 cm (12.6 inches)

I seem to be losing some centimeters but I am not losing any weight, I am going to say that that is a good thing! Since I haven't really been focusing on my Battle Strategies I am not going to talk about my previous ones but only to focus on strategies for this week.

Battle Strategies (this week)
Walking: Reach 30 000 steps this week.
Sit-ups/Push-ups: Continue with the 200 sit-up challenge and keep on doing wall push ups.
Pilates: Do 10 minutes before work.

My None-Scale-Victory
I will be starting my new job this week!

Weekly Weigh-In #5 - Monthly Measurements

The Numbers:
Starting Weight: 78.4 kg (172.8 lbs)
Current Weight: 78.6 kg  (173.2 lbs)

Last month -> This month
Thighs: 64 cm (25 inches) ->  63.5 cm (25 inches)
Butt: 111 cm (43.7 inches) ->110.5 cm (43.5 inches)
Belly: 108 cm (42.5 inches) -> 112 cm (44 inches)
Waist: 89 cm (35 inches) -> 87 cm (34.3 inches)
Boobs: 108 cm (42.5 inches) -> 108 cm (42.5 inches)
Arms: 32 cm (12.6 inches) ->34 cm (13.4 inches)

I actually lost weight this week!! Last week I was 79.1 kg (174.4 lbs) so this week I have lost 500 grams! I as well lost some centimeters except on my belly, went up 4 cm, and on my arms I went up 2 cm. I don't know why my belly (I am taking about the pouch beneath the navel) has grown when the rest has gotten smaller! But overall I am quite happy that something seems to be happening even if it is at a snail pace!

Battle Strategies (last week)
Sit-Ups: Start the 200 sit-ups challenge
I totally forgot to start this!
Walking: I want to reach 40000 steps this week! That would be about 5714 steps per day!
My steps for last week were 28410! So about 4058 steps per day! I am really happy how much I have managed and it wasn't hard at all!
Cardio: Do Leslie Sansone 3 miles videos twice
I wanted to do this in the evenings but when it was evening I was just too tired.

Even if I didn't actually reach all my goals this week I feel super happy about my week! I do feel like I accomplished quite a lot!

Battle Strategies (this week)
Sit-Ups: Start the 200 sit-ups challenge
Walking: Reach 40 000 steps this week.
Push-ups: Since I cannot do real push ups, I want to start doing wall push ups! 20 a day! Hopefully I can work myself up to doing real push ups.

My None-Scale-Victory
I got some great news that made me super happy!

Weekly Weigh-In #4 - The Goals

This week I wanted to write about my weight loss goals. I have been thinking  about this since I started on 1st of April. I would like my main goal to reach a healthy BMI, at the moment my BMI is 30.3 which means that I am obese.

Goal 1: 77.5 kg (170.8 lbs) BMI 29.9
Goal 2: 70 000 steps per week
Goal 3: 72.5 kg (159.8 lbs) BMI 28
Goal 4: 200 sit-ups Challenge
Goal 5: 67.5 kg (148.8 lbs)  BMI 26
Final Goal: 64.5 kg (142.2 lbs) BMI 24.9

The Numbers:
Starting Weight: 78.4 kg (172.8 lbs)
Current Weight: 79.1 kg  (174.4 lbs)

This week I gained 600 grams (1.3 lbs) it is annoying that I am gaining but I am actually hoping that the weight is just water weight (had salty food last night) and hopefully some muscles. Next week I will measure myself again and I can see if I have gained inches as well (hopefully not).

Battle strategies (last week):
Pilates: 10 minutes every day
I didn't do this, I just really forgot about it.
Walking:I'm going to try to walk 10% more this week, I want to manage average 1540 steps a day.
I walked 36977 steps this week! That is about 5282 steps a day! Success!
Water: 1.5 liters a day! Slow and steady wins the race
I didn't do this, I am just so bad at remembering to drink water. I am rarely thirsty.

Battle Strategies (this week)
Sit-Ups: Start the 200 sit-ups challenge
Walking: I want to reach 40000 steps this week! That would be about 5714 steps per day!
Cardio: Do Leslie Sansone 3 miles videos twice

Weekly Weight-In #3

For the past week I have just been a zombie, I am not sleeping very well and it just makes everything hard. I would say that this week has been bit of a failure

The Numbers:
Starting Weight: 78.4 kg (172.8 lbs)
Current Weight: 78.5 kg  (173 lbs)

Great, so I have gained 300 grams (0.7 lbs) in the last week

Battle strategies (last week):

Pilates: 10 minutes every day
Walking: I'm going to try to walk 10% more this week, I want to manage average 1540 steps a day.
Water: 1.5 liters a day! Slow and steady wins the race
None of  these things happened this week so I plan on just trying again this week!

Battle strategies (this week):
Pilates: 10 minutes every day
Walking: I'm going to try to walk 10% more this week, I want to manage average 1540 steps a day.
Water: 1.5 liters a day! Slow and steady wins the race.

My None-Scale-Victory
I just got two new pairs of shoes! Love them to bits!

Weekly Weigh-In #2

Last week I started a Weekly Weigh-In and this week I am going to continue! Friday to Saturday I worked 30 hours so I was quite exhausted! That is why there weren't any posts on Friday. I am so exited about this week! I feel things are going my way and I am ready.

The Numbers:
Starting Weight: 78.4 kg (172.8 lbs)
Current Weight: 78.2 kg  (172.4lbs)

I know 200 grams (0.4 lbs) isn't anything at all but it was nice to see the scale go down instead of up!

Battle strategies (last week):
Pilates - 10 minutes every morning.
I managed to do pilates for 10 minutes 3 days this week, I really enjoyed it and felt amazing.
Walking - I am going to carry my pedometer with me and write down my steps.
I walked about 1400 steps every day.
Water - 1 liter a day (yes I know that is way to little but I have to start somewhere)
I actually accomplished this task! Yay!

Battle strategies (this week):
Pilates: 10 minutes every day
Walking: I'm going to try to walk 10% more this week, I want to manage average 1540 steps a day.
Water: 1.5 liters a day! Slow and steady wins the race.

My None-Scale-Victory
I had an amazing day with my dad this week.

Weekly Weigh-In #1 - The Plan

This is how it starts, again. I need to get to a healthy weight, again. I am just so sick of my extra weight, again. Yes, a constant battle that I just can't seem to win!

The Plan:
I plan on doing a weigh-in weekly (on Mondays) and at the end of every month I will measure myself with a measuring tape!
I plan on setting myself goals that don't have anything to do with how much weight I am losing but more about healthy living, these goals will be called battle strategies!
I plan on not giving up!
I plan on writing down a none-scale-victory every week.

The Numbers:
Weight: 78.4 kg (172.8 lbs)
Thighs: 64 cm (25 inches)
Butt: 111 cm (43.7 inches)
Belly: 108 cm (42.5 inches)
Waist: 89 cm (35 inches)
Boobs: 108 cm (42.5 inches)
Arms: 32 cm (12.6 inches)

Battle strategies:
Pilates - 10 minutes every morning.
Walking - I am going to carry my pedometer with me and write down my steps.
Water - 1 liter a day (yes I know that is way to little but I have to start somewhere)

My None-Scale-Victory
I started, that is a victory!

If you are in a battle with your weight I would love to read about it! Please comment with your links!

Weekly Weigh In

I haven't done a weekly weigh in in a month! Last time I was 75.8kg and today when I stepped on the scale I was 75.7kg.

Over the month my weight has been fluctuating, once it even went down to 74.6kg but it kept on going back up to 76.1kg. Always the same number 76.1kg. It's driving my crazy! Mr. Handsome said I should look at it and be motivated but I felt more like throwing the scale out the window.

6 things that motivate me:
  • Seeing the number on the scale go down
  • Feeling my jeans being looser
  • Feeling stronger
  • Being able to do more sit-ups and push-ups
  • When Mr. Handsome looks at me and goes "wrarrrww"
  • Feeling less tired

6 things that don't motivate me:
  • Feeling tired
  • The number on the scale going up
  • Feeling guilty
  • Trying on new clothes
  • Trying a new strength exercise and failing
  • Running out of breath

Now I know that losing weight is a life long journey but it is hard not to be discouraged and tired of the struggle. I just need some long lasting motivation!

Weekly Weigh In - whoop whoop I am actually losing weight

I haven't stepped on the scale for awhile since I just didn't have it in me. The truth is that I was feeling fat and when I am feeling fat the scale stays underneath the closet.

This morning I decided it was time to see how much weight I had gained, but my oh my I actually had LOST weight! WOOOOHOOO!

Good bye 76 kg (167.5lbs) I hope I won't see you again until I am knocked up and hello 75kg (165.3lbs) we will be partners in crime for some time.

But what did the scale say exactly this morning?

75.8 kg
(167.1lbs)

Yes I have now lost 0.5kg  (1.1lbs) since last time

How many do I have left?

8.3kg
(18.3lbs)

How many months until I turn 24?
8 Months

So if I just lose 1 kg a month I will still make it! Doesn't that feel good!

Otherwise - stay tuned because I'm editing a post of an amazing recipe that I did recently! JUMMY!
